Obituary of Mary Connaughton

Mary Connaughton, 83, of Garnerville passed away on July17, 2017. She was born on November 28, 1933 in Dublin Ireland to Timothy & Anne (McDermott) King. She married the love of her life Patrick Connaughton on Aug. 2, 1955 in Dublin, Ireland. He predeceased her on June 3, 2003. They both emigrated to the Bronx in 1956, where she worked for the New York Telephone Company. Upon returning to Dublin, she became the personal secretary to the Minister for Agriculture. Later in life, surrounded by her grandchildren, she volunteered her time as a lunch lady in St. Gregory Barbarigo School. As an active parishioner for the last 30 years, Mary continued to participate in the parish by dedicating many hours in the Eucharist Chapel. She enjoyed Gardening, Politics, and spending time with her grandchildren & her beloved dog, King. Besides her husband Patrick, she is predeceased by her grandson Brian Connaughton. Mary is survived by her loving children Patrick (Mary) of Gaithersburg, MD, Siobhan (Liam) Walsh of Stony Point, Mary (Tom) O'Riordan of Stony Point, Bernard (Colleen) of Garnerville, her adored & cherished grandchildren Barry, Connor, Kevin, William Walsh, Fiona, Thomas, & Christine O'Riordan, Aisling Connaughton, Brendan, Sean, and Claire Connaughton. Also surviving are her sister Kay and her 3 brothers Johnny, Paddy, &Timmy. She will also be missed by her brothers & sister-laws in Ireland. Her wonderful & caring Aide Claire Sauval will be always remembered by her family for the special care she gave to Mary. The family will receive friends & relatives on Friday July 21stfrom 2- 4 & 7- 9 pm at the TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway , Garnerville, NY. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Mary on Sat. July 22nd in St Gregory Barbarigo Church at 10 am with Internment to follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Nanuet. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Mary's memory to Meals on Wheels of Rockland 121 West Nyack Road Nanuet, NY 10954.
