Obituary of Margaret "Stila" Murphy

Margaret (Peggy) Stila Murphy, 79, of Garnerville passed away peacefully on May 16, 2015 at the Joseph Raso Hospice Center with her loving family by her side. She was born on July 16, 1935 in Manhattan, NY to William and Laura (Thompson) Fogarty. Margaret worked at the North Rockland High School cafeteria for 10 years. She then went on to work at Letchworth Village and Nathan Kline Institute as a bookkeeper for 17 years before retiring in 1997. Her grandchildren were the joy and light of her life. Gram was a thoughtful, devoted grandmother who enjoyed and attended all of her grandchildren's many, many activities. She was an avid dog lover who shared her love and kisses to all in her furry family. Peggy enjoyed bowling for many years, both with her family and on various leagues. Margaret is predeceased by her first husband Frank Stila in 2005 and her second husband John Murphy in 2008. She is survived by her loving children Frank and his wife Sherri Stila of West Haverstraw, Nancy and her husband Dennis Granata of Garnerville, Joanne and her husband Michael Viohl of Garnerville, William and his wife Kathleen Stila of Tomkins Cove, Laurie Stila and her partner Maria Baker of Garnerville. Her adored grandchildren Dennis Granata Jr. and his wife Lyza, Kevin Granata, Michelle Cole-Hatchard and her husband Douglas, Michael Viohl Jr, Frank Stila Jr, Samantha, Joseph, Austin, Allison, Sara and William Stila Jr. Her cherished great grandchildren Jonathan Vaughan, Alexa and Daniella Granata, Kordell Stila, Olivia and Madison Cole-Hatchard. Her brother William Maloney and sister Joan Charles. The family will receive friends and family on Wednesday May 20th from 2 -4 and 7-9 PM at the TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home 71 N. Central Highway Garnerville, NY. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Margaret on Thursday May 21st at 10 AM at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville with interment to follow in Mt. Repose Cemetery in Haverstraw.
