Obituary of Raymond D. Stephens

Raymond D. Stephens, 69, of Tomkins Cove, formerly of 79th Street Boat Basin in New York City where he lived on a house boat, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2015. He was born on Dec. 14, 1945 in New York City to Thomas & Cecilia (Hanavie) Stephens. Ray served his country proudly during the Vietnam War in the US Navy as a medical corpsman. He worked as a Physician's Assistant specializing in Orthopedic Surgery at Metropolitan Hospital Center for 38 years, wanting to, but never retiring to Florida. He was known as a very generous person who always made people laugh and feel good. He is predeceased by his parents and by his sister-in-law Margaret Stephens. Ray is survived by his loving brothers & sisters: Thomas Stephens of Tomkins Cove, June Stephens of Brooklyn Heights, Gail McGarry of Haverstraw, Donald Stephens and his wife Gail of Florida; his adored numerous nieces & nephews and his cherished great-nieces & nephews. Raymond's family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 23 from 4 - 8 PM at T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Raymond on Wednesday, June 24 at 10 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church, 26 John St., Stony Point. A private cremation will follow.
