Obituary of Viola C Tanner

Viola C. Tanner, 92, of West Haverstraw was called home to Heaven peacefully with her loving family at her side on August 7, 2015. She was born on July 18, 1923 in New York City to Frank & Jane (Burns) Ohrnberger. Viola married the love of her life Hoyt Tanner on March 14, 1943. She worked for Chase Manhattan Bank as a bookkeeper prior to her disability. For many years Viola was an active member of Walnut Hill Senior Club. She is best remembered for her caring and selfless nature and love of family. Viola is survived by her loving children Hoyt and his wife Dawn Tanner of Hattiesburg, Miss., James Tanner of Valley Cottage, NY, Donna Tanner of Suffern, Karen and her husband Thomas Curley of Garnerville, NY and her adored grandchildren Tommy, Hoyt, Tricia, Kristin, Lori, Jill, Jeanette, Jimmy and David, along with her cherished great grandchildren Kyle, Victoria, Krystina, Owen, Jack, Joseph, Jaxon and Ryan. She is also survived by her loving sister Eleanor Roth and numerous nieces & nephews. Viola was predeceased by her husband Hoyt in 1963, as well as five sisters and six brothers. The Family will receive friends & family on Monday August 10th from 4 - 9 PM at the TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home 71 N. Central Highway Garnerville, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Viola on Tuesday Aug. 11th at 9:45 AM in St Gregory Barbarigo Church 21 Cinder Rd Garnerville, NY, with Interment to follow at Long Island Nation Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Viola's memory to United Hospice of Rockland 11 Stokum Lane New City, NY 10956
