Obituary of Anna D Spissinger

Anna D. Spissinger, a lifelong resident of Haverstraw, died on April 8, 2016. She was 90. Born on October 16, 1925, Anna Spissinger was the daughter of John and Mary (Dyossky) Kohut. She attended St. Peter's Elementary School and graduated from Haverstraw High School in 1942. Following graduation she worked as a secretary in New York City, and on October 19, 1946 married her high school sweetheart, John G. Spissinger. Their marriage spanned more than 50 years until her husband's death in 1997. After serving as a caring mother and housewife, Anna returned to work as a secretary in the Physical Therapy Dept. at Helen Hayes Hospital. Upon retirement she was an active member of the Haverstraw Seniors Club. She was also a devout and lifelong parishioner at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Besides her husband and parents, Anna was predeceased by her daughter Carole (Spissinger) Marvil of Kansas City, and by her brothers and sisters: Joseph Zayac, Paul Kopchak, Mary Prudente, Maime Siko, and Lillian Bubenko. Surviving are her daughter Susan M. Spissinger of Deerfield Beach, Fla., and her son John Jr. and his wife Susan of Plattsburgh, NY. Anna also enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren: Kristi (Spissinger) O'Connor and Jessica (Spissinger) Johnston, both of Boston, and with Joey and Susie Marvil, along with their father Joe Sr., of Kansas City. She was a very proud great grandmother to Donal and Mary O'Connor, and to Gwendolyn, John, Walter, Hugh, Bruce and Mattison Johnston. Besides her immediate family Anna leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who were very close to her, and two special friends, Joe Lindner and Jean Holland. ‪The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Tuesday April 12th ‬at the T. J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 133 Broadway, Haverstraw NY between the hours of 2pm till 4pm and 7pm till 9pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be held ‪on Wednesday, April 13th , at 10 am‬ in Saint Mary's RC Church in Haverstraw, following the mass Anna will be laid to rest at Saint Peter's Cemetary in Haverstraw NY In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to United Hospice of Rockland, 11 Slokum Lane, New City, NY
