Obituary of Thomas R Leto

Thomas R Leto Sr, 90, of Garnerville passed away on April 17, 2016. He was born on February 20, 1926 in New York City to Thomas & Carrie (Monaghan) Leto. Tom married the love of his life Mary Elizabeth Matthews in 1946 in St. Jerome's Church in the Bronx, she predeceased him in 1997. He proudly served his country in the Merchant Marines. Tom was a firefighter for 20 years with the FDNY serving in the Bronx all his career with the FDNY, retiring in 1977. He was a life member of the Haverstraw Elks. He also enjoyed playing golf. Besides his wife Tom is also predeceased by his granddaughter Lizbeth, sisters Nancy Batti, Edna Mariglia, his sister-in-law Anne Mattews and his brother-in-law James Mattews. He is survived by his loving children Linda Leto of Poughkeepsie, NY, Brother Thomas Leto of New Rochelle,NY, Kevin (Deborah) Leto of New Windsor, NY, Mary (Kenneth) Kakhle of Garnerville, NY, his cherished 9 grandchildren and adored 7 great grandchildren and his nephew James (Rosemary) Batti. The family will receive friends and relative on Wednesday April 20th from 4 - 8 PM at the TJ McGowan sons Funeral Home 71 N. Central Highway Garnerville, NY. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Thomas on Thursday April 21st at 10 AM at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville with Interment to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY. Haverstraw Elks services will be Weds at 7 PM.
