Obituary of Dennis P Martin

Dennis Patrick Martin born in 1938 to Peter and Bridget (Mitchell) Martin in The Bronx, New York passed April 20, 2016 at Avow Hospice in Naples, Florida surrounded by his loving family. "Denny" was a retired Deputy Chief with FDNY serving 33 years on a "job" that he so loved. He was a proud member of the UFOA, FDNY Emerald Society, FDNY Holy Name Society, the North Rockland Social Club, and Haverstraw Elks. Denny loved helping others and was a volunteer with Hospice and Meals on Wheels in New York and in Naples, Florida. He was a man of strong faith and best known for his quick wit and humor. Denny loved to garden and was "published" in the Rockland County Journal News with his garden that he dedicated to the 343 brave firefighters who died in 9/11 and was down at the Towers the day of the tragedy, helping in any way he could. He was a talented artist who painted in water color. Denny graduated from Cardinal Hayes High, Bronx, New York in 1956 and joined the FDNY in 1962. He and his wife Alice have resided in Stony Point for 48 years where they raised their 4 children and have been part-time residents of Naples, Florida for 25 years. Denny is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Alice (Carroll) his loved children Dennis (Genine), Kenneth, Kathy-Jean Barrett (Jeff) and Kevin (Mary) and his 9 grandchildren whom he so loved, Maggie, Bridget and Charlotte Martin, Casey, Liam and Shannon Barrett and Genevieve, Pearse and Delia Martin. He is also survived by his siblings Peter Martin (Pat), Carol Trepcos (Charlie) and Mary Ellen (Tim) and many nieces and nephews, not to mention all his pals who will miss his corny jokes. He was pre-deceased by his parents Peter and Bridget and his brothers Eugene and Vincent. The Family will receive friends & family on Monday April 25th from 6 - 8 PM and Tuesday April 26th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home 71 N. Central Highway Garnerville, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Denny on Wednesday April 27th at 10 AM in St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville with Entombment to follow in Ascension Cemetery in Airmont.
