Obituary of Howard Whitey Farewell

Howard "Whitey" Farewell, 86, of Theills, NY passed away on April 21, 2016. He was born on December 1, 1929 in the Bronx to Dennis & Ada (Nelson) Farewell. Howard married the love of his life Catherine Gormley on Oct. 30, 1948. He worked for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 807 as a truck driver for 44 years retiring in 1991. Whitey was a life & founding member of the David B. Roche Fire Co. in Thiells. He was elected to the Board of Fire Commissioners for the Thiells Roseville Fire District for more than 30 years. Whitey was their Chief Engineer and Chief Chauffer for many years. He took great pride in teaching new firefighters how to drive, handle & maintain the trucks of Dept. 26. He is a life member of the Rockland County Volunteer Fireman's assoc. and Rockland County Chief's Assoc. Whitey was also an original & founding member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville. He loved Carpentry and building things with his hands and could always be seen helping a neighbor and friends improve their homes. Whitey & Catherine loved the beach and traveling together to North FT. Myers in Fla. Howard is predeceased by his parents, a brother Russell and a sister Dolores "DEEDEE". He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Catherine, his beloved son's Steven (Denise) of Trumbull, CT, Howard (Kim) of Pomona, Chris (Maria Caseres) of Garnerville, Craig of Olathe, KS, his cherished & adored grandchildren Howard, Nikki, Julianne, Kyle, Kelly, Brian, Christopher, Kevin, Matthew, Catherine, and James, as well as numerous nieces & nephews. The Family will receive friends & family on Weds April 27th from 4- 8 PM at the TJ McGowan sons Funeral Home 71 N. Central Highway Garnerville, NY. A mass of Christian burial will be held for Whitey on Thursday April 28th' at 10 AM in St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville with a private cremation to follow. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made in Howard's memory to either David B. Roche Fire Dept. or St Gregory Barbarigo Church. Firematics service will be held on Weds April 27th at 7 PM
