Obituary of John L Reilly

John L. Reilly, 84, of Stony Point passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 21, 2016.He was born in the Bronx on April 9, 1932 to John J. & Kathleen (McCarthy) Reilly. John graduated from St. Anthony's & Cardinal Hayes High School. After high school John proudly served his country in the US Army, serving in Korea as a paratrooper with the 187 airborne regiment combat team. He earned numerous decorations including a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for Valor. On Jan. 19, 1957 at St. Pius Church in the Bronx John married the love of his life Margaret O'Malley. John joined the NYPD where he served on patrol in the 41 Pct. in the Bronx. After being promoted to Sgt, in 1968 he served as a patrol Sgt in the 26 Pct. He then went to the city wide Anti-Crime Unit. He spent his last 10 years in the NYPD as Anti-Crime supervisor in the 30 Pct. After retiring from the NYPD John worked security for the Coca Cola Co. on 711 5th Ave. John served as a coach and manager in the Stony Point Little League. He also was an avid paddleball & racquet ball player & loved walking Rockland Lake with his pals. John was a member of the NYPD Emerald Society, Rockland County Shields and the Haverstraw Elks. Besides his parents John is predeceased by his wife Peggy (2006), his daughter Kathy Mariano and his brother Billy. John is survived by his loving children Donna (Brian) Cade of Point Pleasant, NJ, Carol (Hugh) Harold of Stony Point, John (Jamie) Reilly of Stony Point, Michael (Kellyann) of Stony Point, his adored grandchildren Patrice, Christina, Breanne, Kellie, Molly, Kenny, Kayla, Riley, Jake, Meghan, Ryan, Michael, Matthew, Grace his cherished great grandchildren Hailey, Adam, Antonio, Logan, Lorelei, and Juliette. Also surviving is Johns sister Catherine O'Brien, brother Matthew Reilly, son-in-law John Mariano of PA. And numerous nieces & nephews. The family will receive friends & relatives on Thurs June 23rd and Fri. June 24th At the TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home 71 N. Central Highway Garnerville, NY from 4 PM - 8 PM both days. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for John on Sat. June25th at 10 AM in St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville with interment to follow in Ascension Cemetery in Airmont, NY. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in John's memory to the United Hospice of Rockland 11 Stokum Lane New City, NY 10956
