Obituary of James B Hyman

James B. Hyman, 89, of Garnerville passed away peacefully on July 14th with his family by his side. He was born on Nov. 3, 1926 in New York City to Harold & Una (Coveney) Hyman. James was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. As a Chief Quarter Master in the US Navy, he served his country proudly during WWII, and the Korean War. He is a survivor of the Battle of Iwo Jima and was awarded the Bronze Star, Medal of Valor, and numerous combat ribbons. Jim recently had the opportunity to travel to the WWII memorial as part of the Hudson Valley Honor flight. He was married to the love of his life Margaret Mahon. He was a past member of the AOH, the Hudsonieer's, St. Gregory's Choir, The Haverstraw Democrat Committee, The Kearsing Edwards American Legion Post 1600, and he was active with the Marines Toys for Tots program, as well as the Marine Honor Guard. James was a life long learner who enjoyed being engaged in conversation with his children and grandchildren. The best study tool was never a book, but a conversation with grandpa the night before a history test. James greatest source of joy above of all was his love for his family. James is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, his beloved children Vincent, Una (John), Margaret (Arthur), Kathleen (Cliff), Maria (Kevin), Patricia (Joe), and Teresa, his cherished and adored grandchildren John & Luke, Alexandra & Nick, Jennifer & Sarah, Michael & Olivia, Clarissa & Joey, Darius & Eric Jr. In addition, his brother Harold Hyman, and numerous close relatives and friends survive Jim. Family and friends will honor Jim's life on Sunday July 17th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home 71 N. Central Highway Garnerville, NY. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Jim on Monday July 18th at 10 AM in St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville with Interment to follow in the F. Loescher Veterans Cemetery in New Hempstead. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in James's memory to either the Kearsing Edwards American Legion Post 1600, 200 Station Rd Pomona, NY 10970 or United Hospice of Rockland 11 Stokum Lane New City, NY 10956.
