Obituary of Virginia Hanlon

Virginia (Ginny) Hanlon daughter of Kenny and Mary Phillips of Smithville, Georgia passed away Saturday July 16, 2016. Virginia was born November 4,1920 in Americus, Georgia where she grew up, met and married Staff Sgt. Frank B. Hanlon on September 4, 1944. In 1946 they made their home and raised their family together in Frank's hometown of Haverstraw, NY She is survived by daughter Carol Benoist, son Bill Hanlon and wife Amy, sister Janelle Pittman and husband Joe, grandchildren Daniel Benoist and wife Kellie, Tammy Benoist, Will Hanlon and companion Mary, Wendy Beliveau and husband Jake, Jenelle Hanlon and companion Matt, and Logan Hanlon. Great grandchildren Ian, Emmanuel, Mary, Sarah, Jacob, Case, and Emmett. She is predeceased by her husband Frank, son-in-law Bobby (Butch) Benoist and brother Vernon Phillips. Virginia was well known for her Southern roots and charming accent which never faded and was a pleasure to hear. Prior to moving to NY she worked at the Manhattan Shirt Factory in Americus. In New York while raising her family she also worked caring for developmentally disabled children for many years. She brought love and warmth into all our hearts and left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her memory will be cherished and she will be missed Funeral Arrangements are under the direct supervision of the T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home 71N. Central Highway Garnerville NY 10923 the family will be receiving friends and relatives on Tuesday July 19th between the hours of 4pm till 9pm a Funeral Service will be held at the Central Presbyterian Church 89 Hudson Avenue on Wednesday July 20th at 10am. immediately following the funeral service Virginia will be laid to rest at Mount Repose Cemetery in Haverstraw NY.
