Obituary of Florence Cyran

Florence (Flo) Cyran, age 87 of Gainesville, VA passed away peacefully January 3, 2017. Flo was born Florence Tadrzynski on November 12, 1929 in the coal mining town of Windber, PA, the daughter of Polish immigrants Stephan and Helen (Florian) Tadrzynski. She was the 8th of 9 children. Flo lived through the Great Depression, World War II and a host of other historic events as a member of America's "Greatest Generation." She moved to New York City as a young girl, graduated from Washington Irving High School in 1947, and married WWII Marine Corporal John Cyran in 1950. They moved to Stony Point, NY in the 1960s, where Flo raised their 3 daughters as John rose to the rank of Captain in the New York City Police Department. Known for their elegant dinner parties, they enjoyed long hikes, eating at fine restaurants and a household full of love and laughter. Flo and John were married for 57 years until his death in 2008. Soon after, she moved to Virginia to be close to her daughters and grandchildren. Flo is survived by her 3 beloved daughters Janice Nevin, Susan Juskiw and Carolyn Cyran, son-in-law Rick Nevin, grandsons John and Paul Nevin, and siblings Helen Elia and Raymond Tadry. Flo's family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday, January 8, 2017 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at TJ McGOWAN SONS FUNERAL HOME, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Flo on Monday, January 9 at 10 AM at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, Garnerville, with interment to follow at F.W. Loescher Veterans Cemetery, New Hempstead, NY.
