Obituary of Margaret M. Gannon

Margaret Marie (nee Downs) Gannon passed away on March 14, 2017 after a short illness from cancer. Margaret was born in Spring Valley in 1925 to Warren Downes and Margaret (nee Dewan). She came from a large family of nine, with three brothers and five sisters. Margaret was a native of Rockland and lived in Stony Point until she became widowed and moved to be closer to her daughter in Hopewell Junction. She was very active at the former Stony Point Methodist Church and was a trustee until she moved. She was also active with the Girl Scouts of America and was a foster parent to many children over the years, which she considered a calling. She was married in 1942 to Wellington J. Gannon who predeceased her in 1988. They had two children, Wayne of Montebello, NY and Diana Murphy of Hopewell Junction, NY. She is survived by her children, by her beloved daughter-in-law Rosemary and her beloved son-in-law William Murphy; her grandsons Wayne, Michael, William and Daniel; her great-grandchildren Brendan, Connor, Thomas and Ashleigh; one brother and three sisters, and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all who love her and knew her over the years. Margaret's family will receive friends at T.J. McGOWAN SONS FUNERAL HOME, 71 N. Central Highway, GARNERVILLE, on Sunday, March 19, 2017 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Interment will take place at Brick Church Cemetery in New Hempstead, NY on Monday, March 20 at 11 AM.
