Obituary of Epifanio Gerena

Epifanio Gerena, born December 5th, 1935, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 16th, 2017 from the comfort of his home and surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Aguada, Puerto Rico to Francisco Gerena and Telesfora Rivera. Epifanio was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the Army. He married the love of his life, Alejandrina Vargas on December, 19th, 1959. Epifanio worked for the United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier for 21 years in Manhattan. He was a hardworking man who always provided for his family and had a great love for fishing, boating, and playing cards and dominos with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alejandrina Gerena; sister, Justa Gerena Rivera and brother-in-law, Carlos Acevedo; his daughters Vivian Torres, Ivelisse Godfrey, and Marisol Hoffmann; son-in-laws Patrick Godfrey and Steve Hoffmann; grandchildren Christopher Torres, Alexandra Torres, Crystal Godfrey, James Godfrey, Drew Hoffmann, Madison Hoffmann, and Darren Hoffmann; as well as beloved cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents Francisco Gerena, and Telesfora Rivera; sisters Aurea Gerena, Gloria Velasquez; brothers Natalio Sanchez, Andres Gerena, and Dimas Gerena. As the patriarch of the family, Epifanio will be remembered for his leadership, contagious laugh, energetic personality, as a great husband and father, and as an amazing grandfather. He will sorely be missed, but his family rests in the blessed assurance that he is now resting in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
