Obituary of Anthony DiValentino

Anthony “Tony” DiValentino, 58 years old, of Highland, NY, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2024. Born in Suffern, NY at Good Samaritan Hospital on September 1, 1965, to Patricia “Patti” Felice DiValentino Lynch and Antonio DiValentino, Tony grew up in Highland, NY. Tony was one of the first special needs children integrated into New York public mainstream schools. He was often seen actively cheering the local school sports teams and supporting his siblings at school events. He was an avid sports fan and loved all the New York teams with a special sentiment for the New York Yankees. As an adult, he moved to Haverstraw, NY, where he participated in vocational and employment services at Jawonio and Camp Venture.

After moving to Haverstraw, Tony lived happily with his mother and stepfather, Albert Lynch, where they were often seen rooting for the Rockland Boulders, walking around Bowline Point Park, or having dinner together at one of the local restaurants. They cruised together all over the Caribbean visiting over sixteen islands. Tony’s ultimate adventure was a cruise to Alaska where he along with his mother and Al took a helicopter ride to the top of a glacier and all three walked atop the glacier. In 2017, Tony moved back to Highland and lived at Taconic at Ulster Nursing Home where he was known as the “Mayor” and could always be found playing cards, watching sports, and wheeling himself around the facility. Tony lived a full and meaningful life surrounded by family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his siblings – Michael DiValentino (Jennifer), Joseph DiValentino, Gina DuBois (Daniel), Christopher DiValentino (Samantha), and Justin DiValentino (Shannon). The family will receive friends and family at a Wake on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. at T.J. McGowan Funeral Home, 133 Broadway, Haverstraw, New York 10927. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, 115 Broadway, Haverstraw, NY. Burial will follow the funeral service at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Haverstraw. A lunch at Pasta Cucina, Stony Point, will immediately follow the burial service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jawonio Foundation (https://jawonio.org/donate-inmemory/) in memory of Anthony “Tony” DiValentino. The family sends special thanks to the Vassar Brothers Medical Center ICU team and the Taconic at Ulster nurses and aides who took such great care of Tony.
