Dennis McErleane

Obituary of Dennis McErleane

July 4th, 1946 in Butte Montana there was a parade, and fireworks. In a delivery room downtown, there was an event that brought a forever parade of love into our lives, Dennis’ birth.

Dennis eventually found his way to Haverstraw. Think about that! I believe, divine intervention brought him to the hometown of his future wife. Both members of St. Peter’s Parish, they made their Communions, Confirmations, and were married there. They attended High School together, Rockland Community College, and St. Thomas Aquinas College.

Dennis taught at the Haverstraw Middle School for 30 years, where his life was enriched through the children he taught and his co-workers. One who loves teaching is forever blessed with a gift that reaches every part of their being. Thank you to each student.

He was a member of St. Gregory Barbarigo’s parish where he was a Eucharist Minister and taught the RCIA program for almost 30 years with his dear friend, Clarence. Dennis was a man of Faith. Knowing him, you could feel it. It was displayed in his demeanor of kindness, calm, responsibility, and his unconditional acceptance and a love for others. How was it that you only felt better being in his company?

His devotion to his wife, Joann; his children, Ann, Mary Ellen (Douglas), Joseph (Maria), John; grandchildren, Dennis, Timothy, Dominic, Eleanor, and family members was selfless. He was filled with a sense of duty, love, humor, and active engagement in any and all things that had to be done. He never said no to assisting others in need, even when his health was at risk. The neatest thing about him was that he NEVER took center stage. He would do, because it was needed, and that was that.

On January 4, 2024, Dennis’ half birthday, he departed the earth continuing to follow our Lord. We continue to live lives overflowing in gratitude, and blessings. Throughout mine and Dennis’ partnership, we have NEVER felt alone. The presence of our Lord, was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be…

Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Madeline and Stephen McErleane, brothers, Stephen, Timothy, sister Judy, and granddaughter Precious. He is survived by his brothers: Richard and Kevin, family members listed above and numerous relatives and devoted friends. Thank you to each.
