Obituary of William H. Voigt

William H. Voigt of Stony Point, NY died peacefully in Ortley Beach NJ on July 22, 2023, at the age of 87.

Bill was born in Queens NY in 1935 and is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kathleen, his three children, Ann (Rich Riordan), Katie (Jim Carolan) and Bill (Patricia McCarthy- Voigt), along with 10 grandchildren; Ryan, Sean, Kelly, Danny, Caroline, Jack, Kaylie, Chris, Colleen and Patrick.

Bill is a veteran of the United States Navy. He found his true calling when he followed his father’s footsteps and joined the FDNY in 1959. He began as a fireman in Ladder 43 in Harlem followed by being promoted to Lieutenant. He loved “the job” and retired after serving 35 years. Bill was also a member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Parish for the past 57 years.

Bill and Kathleen (his Kate, the love of his life) enjoyed spending time together at home and at their summer home in Ortley Beach.  They especially loved their time together talking about their family and friends and all their fond memories over a happy hour.  He will be remembered for being a kind and doting husband and father.

Bill was also well known for his sense of humor, He had the gift to make everyone laugh with his quick wit and one-liners. He was a great host and loved serving wonderful meals to all family and friends.   Bill was also a good friend and a great listening ear to anyone who needed it as well a mentor to many. 

Visitation will be held on Tuesday July 25 from 4pm-8pm at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home in Garnerville, NY. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday July 26, 11am, at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville, NY followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne New York.
