Dorothy E Diederich
I first met Dorothy about 25 years ago.
She was standing on her porch, and she had a blonde child hugging her around her waist.
I remember thinking that they had the same color hair.
Over the years I remember her as a kind person with a quick smile and eyes that betrayed that she was planning something fun.
During the months that her son Mike Jr. (Mickey) was serving in Afghanistan, I was keeping his office’s financial records, and Dorothy was enlisted to sign the checks for the business in his absence.
So, I would meet Dorothy every other week, so she could sign the checks.
She was always cordial and had an energy that was infectious.
Many times, her smile would fade,
and she would reveal the concern and fear for her eldest son in a war-torn country, far away.
Moments later, she would smile and show the excitement of rehearsing for the concerts/appearances her musical groups had coming up.
With the checks signed, she would yell, “Mike” and her husband would seemingly appear from stage left, and they would head to the car.
Recently I was waiting on the Drive-Up Lane at Mc Donald’s, and I saw a group of older men sitting in the play area, enjoying their coffee. I used to see Mike, Sr. sipping coffee with this group, years ago.
I hope Mike Sr. and Dorothy are sharing stories this morning.
