Obituary of Claire M. Ruane

Claire M. Ruane (Jauntig) of Stony Point, New York, passed away on January 29, 2023. 

Claire was born to Thomas F. Jauntig, Sr. and Claire Jauntig(Mannion) on April 14, 1943. She graduated from St. Peter’s School in Haverstraw, attended Lady Cliff Academy, and graduated from Haverstraw High School in 1961. Claire graduated from the College of St. Rose in Albany, Montclair State University and was a doctoral candidate at New York University. 

Claire was passionate about her career as a teacher in the South Orangetown School District where she taught for over 30 years. She taught English and Spanish at all levels at Tappan Zee High School. Claire’s students brought her so much joy. Stories of her “adventures” with them would be joyously retold to family and friends over the years. 

The senior class of 1974 dedicated their yearbook, The Half Moon, to Claire. The dedication read, “Out of the classrooms and into the halls cannot hurt you. You know too much for that. You teach too much for that. You belong here with us, creating from “no comprendo a sense of ‘si’”.

Claire is survived by her beloved husband of 44 years Patrick Ruane, her sister, Ann Marie (Judy) and brother-in-law Denis Corrigan, brother Thomas and sister-in-law-Hope Jauntig, and brother-in-law John McAllister. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Michael Corrigan, Barbara (Bobbie) McAllister, Linda McAllister Sherry (Brian), Heather JauntigMcGinley (John), Thomas Jauntig, and Brian Jauntig (Kevin), and her “Greats”, Christian Jauntig, Ryan (Jessica), Devon and Connor Corrigan, Jacquelynn Sherry, Mannion and Ryan McGinley, and Harper Jauntig-Timoney, to all of whom she was the most special “Auntie” and “Tia”. 

She is predeceased by her sister-in-law Barbara McAllister (Ruane) and her nephew Kevin Corrigan.  

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 11 at 11:00am at St. Peter’s Church in Haverstraw, NY.
