Obituary of Michael J. Davey

Michael J. Davey of Stony Point, NY passed away on January 28, 2023.

Mike was born in Manhattan to John Davey and Mary “Marie” McKay on May 16, 1948. The family lived in Jackson Heights, Queens before moving to Massapequa Park where he grew up going to school, playing sports and making lifelong friends. He met the love of his life, Mary McLoughlin, at age 16 and this past year they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Mike received his BA from SUNY Cortland and his MS in Education from Iona College. Mike and Mary moved to Rockland County in 1972 when Mike started teaching and coaching at Felix Festa Junior High School and then Clarkstown North High School. Mike enjoyed being a Social Studies teacher and coach of numerous sports (football, field hockey, and tennis) until he retired in 2003. He continued coaching tennis until 2016.

Mike enjoyed spending time with his family and friends which included summer vacations at Montauk and the Jersey Shore and winter vacations in Florida, playing golf, tennis, and cards, as well as traveling. He was an avid sports fan who loved watching the Rangers, Yankees, and Giants. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Mike is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Jennifer Carroll and husband Phil, son Brian, grandchildren Jack and Colin Carroll and Daniella and Giulietta Davey, brother John (Pauline), sisters-in-law Ellie Bowman (Jack), Kathy Mutz (Tom), brothers-in-law Jimmy McLoughlin (Barbara) and Michael McLoughlin (Patti) and numerous nieces and nephews. Also, the family would like to thank Indira Fetic and Dianne Charles who regularly brighten his day by being so kind while caring for him.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 4th at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church in Stony Point, NY. Please join the family immediately after, to celebrate Mike’s life, at La Terrazza in New City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Food Bank of Hudson Valley.
