Obituary of John E. Walsh
John E. Walsh, born June 27, 1936, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2022, at the age of 85. John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eileen Walsh, Thiells, NY; his two sons Edmond (Jill) and Thomas (Kari); his adoring grandchildren Daly, Quinn and Edmond; his three brothers Robert (Bridget), David (Anne), and Edward (Kathy), numerous nieces and nephews that loved him dearly. John was predeceased by his son John J, and his two siblings, James and Kathleen.
John was born in Bronx, NY, and was the eldest of six children of Edmond and Kathleen Walsh. He was known by many names: Jack, Jackie, Uncle Jack, Grandpa and Dad. At an early age, both his parents died. Jack and his siblings managed to stay together through those years, developing a fierce loyalty to family and those that helped them. In 1971, Jack and Eileen settled in Thiells, NY, and raised their three sons. Whenever he was not working, Jack’s main goal was to watch all the boys’ sporting events.
Jack’s sparkling blue eyes and loud laugh could melt your heart. He enjoyed playing golf and spending as much time as possible at Schroon Lake, NY, fishing with his sons and grandchildren. Many Friday nights he raced up the Thruway to get to the cabin to wait for the family to arrive.
Jack worked as a Master Rigger and Local 40 NYC Ironworker for most of his life. He also played professional handball for NYAC, traveling throughout the country and internationally. After he retired, Jack worked as a ranger at Phillip J. Rotella Golf Course.
A wake is scheduled from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Friday June 17th at T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home in Garnerville, NY and a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am June 18th at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Pelham, NY. Burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.
