Obituary of Estela Inés Muñoz

Estela Inés Pérez de Muñoz known by all who loved her as Inés, of Haverstraw, NY passed away on June 3, 2021, surrounded by family. She was 93 years old. After a long battle with Alzheimer’s, she is now resting in peace with our heavenly Father. Estela Inés was born in Jicome, Valverde Mao, Dominican Republic to Ramon Edilio Rodriguez and Albertina Perez on January 28, 1928.  She was an only child from this union and had six other siblings on her father’s side.

Inés was a teacher in the Dominican Republic for many years, teaching in rural areas where education was needed and her goal was to promote literacy of alphabetization and language skills. She traveled on horseback to many small towns where education was needed most.  Her teaching career came to a halt when she decided to migrate to New York in 1970, to start a new life in the United States.

She settled in the Village of Haverstraw, located in Rockland County, New York.  She brought her entire family and gave them the opportunity to be raised with an abundance of love, while encouraging them to reach their full potential.  A new generation of the Muñoz Pérez family was started with Inés at the helm. She left a legacy of unity, love, and gave all that she had to help others acquire their dreams.   

Inés worked for many years for Saxton Inc, in Congers, NY and Par Laboratories where she made countless friends that became family. She was an active member of St. Peters Church in Haverstraw, NY and member of the group Corazon de Jesus.

Inés married Marcos E. Muñoz in 1946 and they had 13 children, 37 Grandchildren, and 37 Great Grandchildren:   Gladys A. (Frances, Ulises), Aridia A. (Marcelo, Yozara, Yamilka, Yohairy), Maria M. (Leidy, Soulange, Jessica), Marcos H. (Julia, Omar, Marcos A. Marjulie, Marlie), Ramon E. (Ramon Jr, Jacqueline, Rocco), Jose Miguel (Ana C.  Jose L. Denise, Darlene) Cesar E. (Maria, Cesar, Theresa, Maria), Miguelina A. (Crystal, Andrew, Karina), Dulce M. (Fred, Tiffany, Ericka, Jamsel, Joel), Jose N. (Lia, Kathleen, Marc), Adelaida Y.  (Justin, Danielle, Klaus), Noemi J. (Edgar, Austin, Gabriella), Saira J. (Eduardo, Abigail), as well as Ana M. Perez who Ynés raised since a very young age (Aquiles, Yesenia).

She was predeceased by her devoted husband in 1995 and survived by all her children and an abundance of family, near and far.

Family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, June 8th from 3-5pm and 7-9pm at T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 133 Broadway, Haverstraw, NY.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 9th, 11:00am, at St. Peter's Church, Haverstraw, followed by interment at St. Peter's Cemetery, Route 9W, Haverstraw, NY.
