Obituary of Viola Mendy

Viola Mendy, of West Haverstraw, passed away on March 27, 2014. She was 84. She was born in the Bronx on February 10, 1930 to Ethel (Cross) and Lincoln Strobel. Viola worked for many years for Metropolitan Life as well as at Letchworth Village before retiring in 1992. Viola was passionate about world travel, horse racing, and reading. She was a proud member of the Haverstraw and West Haverstraw Seniors groups. Viola is survived by her three beloved daughters: Allyson Garcia and her husband Michael, Chris-Ann Garcia and her husband Ralph, and Susan Mendy, as well as by her cherished grandchildren: Alyssa, Michael, Ralphie and his wife Erin and Christopher Garcia, as well as her extended family and many dear friends. Viola was predeceased by her parents, and by her beloved husband Louis, who passed away in 1991. Viola's family will receive friends at T.J. McGOWAN SONS FUNERAL HOME, 133 BROADWAY, HAVERSTRAW, on Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 7-9pm, and on Sunday, March 30 from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Peter's Cemetery, Haverstraw, on Monday, March 31 at 11:15am, with interment to follow at Ascension Cemetery.
