Obituary of Edward P. Moetzinger

Edward Paul Moetzinger, a longtime resident of Thiells, NY died on Sunday, October 29th 2023.

 

Edward was born October 27th 1943 and grew up in Bronx, NY.  He attended St. Helena High School and later pursued his education, earning a Bachelors of Arts degree from Marist College and a Master of Arts in History from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

 

He enlisted in the US Navy in January 1967 and served his county for 4 years on the USS Sacramento during the Vietnam conflict. One of his proudest moments was earning The Golden Shellback.  This is for sailors who have crossed the point where the Equator crosses the 180th meridian.

 

On November 1st 1969, Edward married his beloved wife, Carol Ann Moetzinger, and their union lasted for over 54 years.

 

Edward’s professional life was marked by his unwavering commitment to education. He served as a dedicated Social Studies teacher at Clarkstown High School South, for an impressive 38 years.  His perfect attendance record was a testament to his strong work ethic and dedication to his students.

 

Beyond his career, Edward was actively involved in various community organizations including the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans, demonstrating his commitment to serving others and his community.  He was a devout Catholic and long-time parishioner of St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville, NY.

 

Edward had a passion for his family and was known for his exceptional skills in home improvement.  Family and friends often turned to him, and his grandchildren gave him his favorite t-shirt affectionately referring to him as “Grandpa Ed can fix anything”.

 

He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Ann and their children, Steven Paul Moetzinger and Julie Marie Moetzinger.  Edward was also a proud and doting grandfather to his grandchildren, Thomas Moetzinger (17), James Moetzinger ( 15) and Daniel Moetzinger (12).  He is further survived by his sister-in-law Mary Ann Moetzinger, and nephews Michael Moetzinger and Matthew Moetzinger.  Edward was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Charles Moetzinger.

 

Visiting will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023 from 4pm-8pm at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home in Garnerville, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, 10:15am at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church, Garnerville, followed by interment at Fred Loescher Veterans Cemetery, Spring Valley, NY.
