Obituary of Mary E. Onderdonk

Mary Elizabeth Onderdonk ( nee O’Leary ) passed away peacefully with her family and friends by her side on September 6, 2023. She was 85 years old. Mary was born in the Bronx, New York on February 8, 1938 to Mary and Harry O’Leary. Mary worked multiple jobs over her career – Boulderberg Manor and then later Genovese Pharmacy until her retirement. Mary married the love of her life, Frank on November 30, 1957.

After living in Westerchester for a brief time later moved to Stony Point 1962 where they raised 4 children. Mary loved to entertain during the holidays and spend time with family and friends. One of her greatest joys came from her 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She will  be missed by all who knew and loved her. Mary is survived by her beloved husband, Frank of 65 years and also survived by her cherished children Karen Brannigan, Frank ( Christine ) and Peter , daughter in law Kathleen Onderdonk, along with her sister Patricia Flaherty and many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her son Eddie , sisters Frances Guy, Ann O’Leary and brother, Connie O’Leary. Mary was a jovial person with her great Irish smile and sense of humor.

Family will receive friends on Monday, September 11, 2023 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at TJ McGowans Funeral Home, 71 N Central Highway, Garnerville, NY 10923. Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Mt Repose Cemetery, Haverstraw NY at 11:00 am .

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to United Hospice or Dominican University Nursing Program, Orangeburg, NY in honor of Mary Onderdonk.
