Obituary of Theresa McSharar
Theresa McSharar, 57, of Garnerville, NY transitioned to the afterlife peacefully surrounded by family and the most caring staff and volunteers at the Joe Raso Hospice residence in New City on April 21, 2018 after a valiantly battling lung cancer during the past year. She was born on February 2, 1961 in Nyack, NY to James and Mary (Gizzi) Kelley. Theresa is survived by her loving son Travis McSharar of Stony Point and her beloved brother James Kelley and his wife Desiree of Delmar, NY and many cousins spread across our nation. Terry always more interested in her work helping others, most enjoyed the years she spent as a Youth at Risk Counselor with the National Guard Bureau CHALLENGE program in Peekskill, NY. There she helped up to 100 children a year get their GED’s through a very focused combination of residential education, military discipline and community service. While employed at CHALLENGE she received numerous commendations. After CHALLENGE was closed due to a cut in State funding, Terry began working with the Rockland Co. Mental Health Deptment as an Social Service Assistant. After graduating from North Rockland High School, she attended Rockland Community College and spent time travelling in the Southwest U.S.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated for Theresa on Friday April 27th at 10 AM in St Peters Church in Haverstraw with Interment of Ashes will follow in St. Peters Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Theresa memory to United Hospice of Rockland 11 Stokum Lane New City, NY 10956. Funeral Arrangement were entrusted to the TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home 71 N. Central Highway Garnerville, NY.
