Obituary of David A. Rooney

David A. Rooney, a long-time resident of Garnerville died Saturday April 14th with his family by his side. He was 76. David was born August 4, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY to David and Mary (Star). David served in the US Navy during the Cold War. Upon his discharge from the Navy, David became a Police Officer with the New York City Police Department. After 23 years with the NYPD, David retired and went to work providing security for the Securities Industry Automation Corp. in New York City. David received a Bachelor of Science degree from New York Institute of Technology.

David was a proud member of the New York City Police Department’s Emerald Society and the Haverstraw Elk’s Lodge. He was a great supporter of many charities. David was a long-time parishioner of St. Peter’s Church in Haverstraw.

David was predeceased by his loving wife Carol (Wren) of 50 years. He is survived by his three daughters Kathleen and Joseph Hassett of Newburgh, Carole and John Lucas of Peekskill, and Mary Rooney of Garnerville and his loving grandchildren Kristina, Joseph, Jason, Daniella, Matthew, and Michael.

David’s visiting hours will be held on Wednesday April 18th from 4 – 8 pm at the T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home in Garnerville. David’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10am in St. Peter’s Church in Haverstraw. Burial will follow in Mt. Repose Cemetery.
