Obituary of Louise Gokey

Louise "Dorothy" Gokey of Pine Bush, NY, formerly of Garnerville, NY, passed away on December 28 at ORMC in Middletown, NY. She was 93. Louise was born on March 6, 1924 in Saratoga Springs, NY. She was the daughter of the late Frederick and Bertha Stager. On September 20, 1941, Louise married Louis J. Gokey (Bo). Louis and Dorothy raised 3 children together- a son, Louis (Buddy), and 2 daughters- Sharon and Deborah. She was predeceased by her son Louis F. Gokey who passed on 8/31/88, and her husband Louis J. Gokey, who passed on 11/19/99 after 58 years of marriage. Louise was the last of her siblings to pass, she was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. Louise was always there for her family. She worked, babysat, cooked and devoted many years of her life caring for and helping her children and grandchildren (great and great-great), making their lives a lot easier by being there for them when they needed her. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will surely be missed. She was a strong and loving woman who was loved by so many. She was an avid Yankee fan and enjoyed nothing more than watching every Yankee game. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in sports: baseball, football and race car driving. She loved playing cards, bingo, and going to the casinos. She had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed telling and hearing jokes. Most of all she enjoyed her fur baby "Chloe" who over the years brought much joy to her life. Survivors include her loving children: Sharon L. Pagano and her husband John of Pine Bush, NY, and Deborah L. Finnerty of Garnerville, NY. She is also survived by 5 cherished grandchildren, Bridgette, Deborah, Michael Keith and Scott, 12 great- grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Louise's family will receive friends at T.J. MCGOWAN SONS FUNERAL HOME, GARNERVILLE, on Monday, January 1, 2018 from 3-7 PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 2, at 10:30 AM, with interment to follow at Mt. Repose Cemetery, Haverstraw.
