Obituary of Joseph Vincent Cacioppo

Joseph Vincent Cacioppo Sr., 75, of Garnerville, New York passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on January 6th. He was born on October 8, 1942 to the late Carl and Elizabeth (Martello) Cacioppo and grew up in Haverstraw. He attended St. Peters Grammar School and graduated from Haverstraw High School in 1960 then went on to study at Catholic University in Washington, DC. .Joe was a well-respected Electrical Contractor who owned and operated Carl R. Cacioppo Electrical Contractors alongside his father and brothers. In 1988, he partnered with his son to establish J.V.C. Electric Company. After 45 years as a business owner and a member of IBEW 363 he retired in 2003.The definition of a true gentleman, Joe will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, humor and wisdom. Joe's passion was his charitable work, notably for St. Peters Parish where he donated his time and knowledge as an electrician to oversee church, rectory and school improvements throughout the last 30 years. His interests included devoting time with his family, working in his yard, walking the grounds at Bear Mountain, and taking rides with his brother Tommy. Joe is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda (McElroy); his devoted children Joseph Jr. (Heather), Carol Ann, and Lynda Jean (Brad); his loving grandchildren Amanda Harris (Donald), Danielle, Sammantha, Michael and Liam; his two sweet great-grandchildren Annabella and Nicholas; his siblings Carl Jr. (Judi), Connie, Kathleen Green, Vincent (Robin); and sisters-in-law Peggy Womack (Kit), Lee Cacioppo-Rodriguez (Elio) and Cali McElroy. Joe is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. All of these he loved and touched deeply.Joe was preceded in death by his youngest brother, Thomas Cacioppo, brother-in-law Richard McElroy; and sister-in-law Rachel Cacioppo. The family will receive friends on Thursday January 11, 2018 and Friday January 12, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at T.J. McGowan Sons, 133 Broadway, Haverstraw NY. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 10 am at St. Peters Church, 115 Broadway, Haverstraw NY. Interment to follow at St. Peters Cemetery.
