She was the second of four siblings: Violet (the eldest), Edward (Sonny) and Joyce. From early in life, Ruthie marched to the beat of her own drum. As a young woman in NYC Ruthie had many passions. She danced with an African dance troupe at the Harlem Y, she volunteered with young girls as a long-term Girl Scout Leader and she even tried her hand as an amateur actress. But Ruthie was most passionate about fashion. As a self-taught professional seamstress Ruthie designed the most fabulous and colorful outfits. She was best known for designing and sewing intricate wedding dresses, first for her sister then for her nieces. Ruthie was well versed in politics, sports, classical music- she had a real affinity for Ravel’s “Bolero” (loudly on Sunday mornings). Professionally Ruthie was an Executive Legal Assistant. She worked for the Kaye Scholer law firm for 24 years before her retirement in 2009. Ruthie lived and loved life to the fullest. She charmed everyone with her infectious smile and big personality. Ruthie is survived by Sharon, her life partner of over 30 years. She also leaves to cherish her memory her beloved sister Joyce. She was predeceased by her big sister Violet and brother in law Neville, her beloved brother Sonny (Edward) and sister in law Ann and her brother in law Bob. Ruthie leaves to cherish her memory, her many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, her fur baby doggie Bow and a host of cousins and longtime friends. The family will celebrate Ruthie’s life with a memorial service at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home in Garnerville, NY on Saturday, January 28 at12pm. Gathering for friends and family will begin at 10am.
