Obituary of Catena "Catherine" Pintaudi

Catena Pintaudi, age 87, from Stony Point, NY passed away on Thursday 17 March 2022.

She was born on 7 January 1935 to Carmelo and Rose Scaglione in San Piero Patti, province of Messina, Sicily.  She was one of five children with two brothers and two sisters. At age 20, Catena came to the United States to live in Johnstown, PA, birthplace of her mother Rose. She reconnected with her childhood sweetheart Rosario and they were married in 1957.  They started their family in West Haverstraw, NY and moved to Stony Point, NY in 1971.

Catena loved to food shop and cook large Italian meals; her love of cooking combined with an innate curiosity led to experimenting with other cuisines.  One of her favorites to cook and eat was Chinese food. She enjoyed planting flower and vegetable gardens, and during the season would always have fresh cut roses from her garden in her kitchen.

Her curious nature made Catena an avid news and pop culture fan. She stayed on top of current events  through various channels including most recently Twitter. She enjoyed word puzzles and watching the Yankees. During their 65 year marriage, Rosario and Catena traveled and had the opportunity to visit many places in the world including Hawaii, Japan, and the Philippines.  On her retirement, she and Rosario would spend winters in Florida. 

She struggled for many years with severe heart failure, battling back from several surgeries; however, she did not let that illness define her nor deprive her from the joy she took from living her life and being with family. Warm hearted and always ready to smile big, she loved to be around people sharing funny stories, caring for her puppy, and was most happy surrounded by her family at her kitchen table.

Catena is survived by her children Joe (Ginger) of Arizona, Rose (Eugene) of Nyack, NY and Jeanie of Suffern, NY; her grandchildren Alexandra (Josh), Joseph (Brittany), and James, and three great-grandchildren all from Arizona.  Her sister Angela D'Assisi resides in West Haverstraw, sister Maria in Garnerville, and brother Francesco in Florida. Sisters-in-laws Lina Pintaudi, Carmela Pintabona, and Rita Caffarelli reside in Italy; also, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins in both the US and Italy. 

Catena is predeceased by her husband, Rosario who passed this February, her parents, parents-in-law Giuseppe and Santa, brother Tindaro, and brothers-in-law Oracio, Peppino, Giuseppe Pintabona, and Carmelo D’Assisi.

Catena’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday 25 March 2022 at 11:00 AM at Saint Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville, followed by the interment at Saint Peter’s Cemetery, West Haverstraw.
