Obituary of Eugene P. Burns

Eugene P. “Gene” Burns, 79, of Stony Point passed away surrounded by his loving family on March 6, 2022. Gene was born on November 9, 1942, to John and Anne (McGovern) Burns in Inwood, NY. Gene married the love of his life, Michele “Mickey” on August 22, 1966, at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church in New York City. He served in the United States Navy before becoming a sergeant for the NYPD Transit Authority for 20 years. Gene was a proud member of the Haverstraw Elks Lodge 877. Gene was happiest making memories with his children and grandchildren. He especially loved spending time with his family at his beach house in North Wildwood, NJ. Gene is predeceased by his wife Mickey, his parents, and his brother Benny. He is survived by his beloved children Gina (Michael) Corcelli of Lyndhurst, Ohio, Debbie (Patrick) Reilly of Stony Point, NY, Kevin (Michele) of Stony Point, NY, and his adored and cherished grandchildren, Kayla, Andrea, Joseph, Brianne, Kacie, Owen, Kevin Jr., Karlee, and Madelyn. Gene was a loving uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

 

The family will receive friends and family on Thursday, March 10 from 4-8 PM at the T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home at 71 N. Central Highway in Garnerville, NY. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Gene on Friday, March 11 at 11 AM at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church with interment to follow at Ascension Cemetery in Airmont, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gene’s memory to the Joe Raso Hospice Residence, 415 Buena Vista Rd New City, NY 10956.
