Bill was an amazing man who was loved by so many. This was shown by the full house at his memorial yesterday. The obvious talent that everyone saw was knack for making intricate carvings. I will definitely miss needing to come up with a gift and turning to Bill to make something truly one of a kind. But I will mostly miss his kind and calm nature, the way he rested his hand on his stomach and laughed, his guidance when I was his intern, him teaching me his "special pitch" so I could compete in his place at the company picnic softball game, him showing me the place he loved most - Maine, and the strength that he exemplified in the last months of his life. He is already missed and has left a hole that cannot be filled. Some solace is knowing that he left behind wonderful memories that everyone who knew him can think back on fondly.

Dear Maureen, Kelly, family and friends,
I first met Bill in 6th Grade shortly after our family moved to Pomona. We started to eat lunch together in the following year and our friendship grew over the next six years through junior and senior high school. Playing basketball on his driveway, discussing cars, and bowling along with fishing in Harriman State Park one summer.
We both chose careers in engineering: Bill in mechanical, and I in marine. We shared stories throughout college, engineering design philosophies and experiences. I remember Bill inviting me to be his co-pilot in a student SAE road rally at Manhattan College somewhere in the Bronx/Westchester. His trust in my nautical navigation skills resulted in us finishing in second place.
After graduation Bill worked for Minigrip, Singer, City of Yonkers-Building Permits then General Bearing. We shared many a laugh sharing our stories of engineering goofs at our respective companies. It was about two years after graduation I met Bill’s lovely fiancé and soon to be bride, Maureen. I returned from a temporary assignment in New Orleans with my wife, Shirley, in March 1984.
Bill helped us with some major renovation work on our home in NJ when an addition was removed. He provided us numerous insights and features he had designed into his home which we took into consideration during our renovations. Our children were born. In 1991 my employer moved to Texas and our visits were much too infrequent.
I appreciated Bill’s advice and wisdom, humor, integrity, and insights. There are many more stories to share and I consider my friendship with Bill and his family to be a privilege. This is such an incomprehensible loss for us all. I will keep all of you in my prayers.

I worked with Bill for twenty years. We both started at General Bearing within a month of each other, and so were always chummy. He was a top-flight engineer and (rightfully) rose up through the ranks, eventually becoming a VP and my boss, which pleased me just fine. He stood-up for me when no one else did, opening the door for me to work in China for nine years, which changed my life. Always supportive, encouraging and humorous, he opened a huge chapter for me, for which I will always be grateful.
RIP, Bill. Hoo! Ha!

Our condolences to the Kurtz family.
Bill was truly an outstanding engineer and manager at General Bearing Corporation. He personally resolved several complex engineering issues with major automotive customers.
He was respected by all who worked with him over his many years at GBC.
Bill was a family man who was very proud of his daughter, Kelly. I remember many stories of softball games!
We all have many fond memories!

I am truly saddened to hear of Bill’s passing. I worked with Bill at General Bearing and he gave me a chance to work as a junior engineer. To say Bill was intelligent does not disclose the full picture. He was close to genius and could solve any problem. I enjoyed seeing his woodworking talents through Facebook. He loved his wife , Maureen and daughter Kelly so very much. I am a better person for knowing Bill. He will be missed by many. Rest In Peace my friend. My sympathies go out to all family and friends.
Sincerely,
Sam & Gale Latkovic

I knew Mr Kurtz as my close friend Kelly's dad. As everyone has mentioned his craftsmanship was amazing. And when him and Kelly started pairing their skills and working together to make great pieces of art, it was a beautiful thing. He was always crafting up something for Kelly and Jamie's apartment, or working with Kelly to make gifts for her friends. I have a wooden box that Kelly and Bill made that I treasure. Mrs.Kurtz and Kelly, I know what a wonderful man he was and the words on this memorial page just echo that, the most important person in your lives and gone incredibly too soon. Time together may feel like a memory, but he will be with you both every single day. I pray that you both find comfort in this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you and I am sending all of my love.

I knew Bill as the father of my daughter’s incredible roommate Kelly, as an Engineer who gave my daughter an internship and who she grew to love. I saw his incredible talents as a craftsman through two of the most intricate carvings he did that my daughter gave me for my birthday and for my retirement. The first carving was proudly displayed in a case in the vestibule of my school for all to admire. He also gifted me with a carving I admired on his Instagram page. I am so sorry for your loss, Kelly and Maureen, as I know Bill was everything to your family. I am sorry the world won’t get to see more of his talent as a craftsman. I do know a man like Bill was a gift from Heaven so he no doubt has returned home to patiently wait for his loved ones. May God Bless the Kurtz Family. Gone way too soon.
