Obituary of Ann M. Clifford
Ann Clifford (*nee Renaghan) passed away on December 21, 2021 at the age of 81. She died in her home in Stony Point, NY surrounded by loved ones.
Born on January 10, 1940 in Co. Armagh, Ireland, Ann was the first of her family to come to America. She traveled on the SS America with her sister in 1959, and paved the way for all that followed.
She was dedicated to providing for her family. She excelled in the catering industry as a food and beverage manager, and later in life as a caregiver. When she wasn’t working, she was Irish céilí dancing as a member of both the Irish Cultural Center in Blauvelt, NY and the Bergen Irish Center of NJ. As the matriarch of the Renaghan family, Ann always made an effort to bring her loved ones together.
Ann is predeceased by her husband Carl Hooghuis and her son James Clifford along with her late siblings, Pat, Jim, Donald, Brian, Nora, Kathleen, Mae and Deirdre. She is survived by her sisters Veen Moore, Ita Roche and Marion Brennan; her brothers Matthew and Arthur Renaghan; her children Deirdre Clifford, John (Mary) Clifford and Jacqueline (Anthony) Brigandi; and her grandchildren Michael, Gabrielle, Anthony, Meghan, Deanna, Shannon, Dillon, Austin, Devyn and Siobhan. She was also a loving stepmother and grandmother to James, Carl, Stephen and Larry Hooghuis, and Karen Laufersweiler and their children.
She may have left us, but she will always live in our hearts. Her love for life will continue to live on forever.
Friends may call at the TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home, Garnerville on Tuesday, December 28 from 4-8 PM. Ann’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 29 at 10:00 AM in Immaculate Conception Church, Stony Point. Burial for the family will follow at Gates of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are being requested to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, or United Hospice of Rockland.
