After graduation from high school in the Bronx, John joined the US Army in 1956 and served proudly for three years in the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper. After his honorable discharge in 1959, John completed schooling under the GI Bill and became an electrical engineer. John had a lengthy career with the NYC Transit Authority of over 20 years and also worked for several national engineering firms.  His expertise was in the rail transit business, where he worked on multiple electrical engineering projects with respect to the NYC Subway System, Metro North and NJ Transit.

After the passing of his first wife Anne in 2002 after a lengthy illness he married Patricia Martin in 2005 and remained in Stony Point with her until his recent passing.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and staying in touch with his many friends and neighbors in Stony Point as well as former service members of the US Army. He was especially proud when his son Edward joined the 82nd Airborne and followed him as a paratrooper after graduating from high school.
