Obituary of Kathryn "Kay" M. Orlando
Kathryn (“Kay”) Orlando, 77, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her residence in Phoebe Allentown on June 18, 2021. Kay was born to the late Michael and Catherine Lyons on February 5, 1944, in Woodside (Queens), NY. She graduated from The Mary Lewis Academy in 1961 and then earned her Associate Degree in Medical Assisting from the Mandl School, College of Allied Health, in 1963. She married the late Frank Orlando in 1965, and they lived together in Pearl River, NY and Haverstraw, NY with their 4 children for more than 25 years. After a long nursing career at North Rockland Pediatrics, Kay retired to Woodloch Springs in Hawley, PA, where her devotion to God and the Blessed Mary, her enduring love of family and friends, and her passion for reading, cards, and crosswords continued to flourish. Kay loved spending time with her family, especially for birthdays and holidays; she made Christmas magical for everyone. Kay is survived by four children: Christopher (and his wife Kathy), of Bethlehem, PA; Annemarie, of Raleigh, NC; Gail Sakmann (and her husband Michael), of Suffern, NY; and Michael (and his wife Alison), of Florida, NY. She also is survived by 8 grandchildren – Caitlin, Allison, Tommy, Michael, William, Matthew, Kathryn, and Abigail – her sister Carolann (and her husband Tom) Flaherty, and brother Joseph (and his wife Dede) Lyons, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and close friends. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, 11am, at St. Peter’s Church, Haverstraw, followed by interment at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Haverstraw, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cay Galgon Life House (www.caygalgonlifehouse.org).
