Obituary of James "Jimmy" M. O'Donnell

James M. O’Donnell passed away peacefully in his sleep after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease on February 19, 2021. Jimmy was born in the Bronx on August 30, 1952 to James and Nancy O’Donnell.  He graduated from St. Raymonds and received a bachelor of science in psychology from St. John’s University.  Jimmy met the love of his life Maryann at a dance at Fordham University and they were married at St. Margaret in Riverdale on August 16, 1975.  Jimmy and Maryann moved from the Bronx to Garnerville in 1981 where they raised 2 children.  He worked for the IRS before switching careers and teaching science in the South Bronx.  Jimmy went on to get a Masters of Library Science from Long Island University and taught as a librarian for the Yonkers school district until his retirement. He loved computers, trains, history and his beloved New York Giants and New York Yankees.  Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife Maryann and his two children, James (Buddy) and Suzanne. Jimmy was predeceased by his brother Terry.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, 10:15 am, at St. Gregory Barbarigo, Garnerville, followed by internment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
