Obituary of John S. Babcock

John S. Babcock, 89 of Stony Point passed away peacefully on December 4, 2020. He was born on September 7, 1931 in Haverstraw, NY to Daniel and Lillian Babcock. He was a lifelong resident of Rockland County. John Married the love of his life Marie A. Bednar on May 31, 1953 in St. Peters Church in Haverstraw and they celebrated 63 years of marriage. John served in the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on February 11, 1954. He also served as a police officer in the Town of Haverstraw Police Dept. He was the Fire Chief of the West Haverstraw Fire Dept. John retired from the Orange & Rockland Utility Company after 30 years of service.John enjoyed sports, working on the family tree and spending time on his back porch enjoying nature. He is survived by his beloved children Stephen (Joann) of Stony Point, Robert of Stony Point, Gary (Shirley) of Florida, Cathy of Highland Falls and Terry of Stony Point. His adored grandchildren Stacy, Jenifer, Anna, Lisa, Gary, Christopher, Nicole and his cherished great grandchildren Lilly, Girird, Leo, Alexander, Callisto, Stryder, Karlee and Dalton. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, December 9th from 3 to 7pm at the T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home 71 North Central Highway, Garnerville, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am, Thursday, December 10th in St. Peters Roman Catholic Church in Haverstraw with interment to follow at St. Peters Cemetery in Haverstraw, NY.
