Deacon Roland “Ron” F. Dowen

​Ron Dowen died on August 14, 2020 in his home surrounding by loved ones.  He was born on March 14, 1933 in Long Branch, NJ to the late Edward and Adele Dowen.

​He spent most of his early life living in the Finger Lakes.  He and his family moved to Stony Point in 1968 when he became an administrator in the North Rockland Central School District until his retirement in 1992.

​Ron is survived by his wonderful wife, Margaret, of 60 years, four children Michael, Mark, Matthew, and Mary Margaret.  His nine grandchildren Nicholas, Matthew, Tyler, Taylor, Jenna, Samantha, Dominic, Aleya and Sophia.  He is also survived by his sister, Joyce, her husband Jack and sister Irene.  He is previously deceased by his brother Edison.

​Ron spent his life doing for others.  Serving his country with the United States Marines, his community with the Stony Point Ambulance Corps for 16 years and the Stony Point Little League as a manager for 18 years and 2 years as President.  He served his church, St. Gregory Barbarigo, as a Deacon for 23years after being ordained in St. Patrick’s Cathedral by the late Cardinal O’Connor.

​Ron was an avid golfer for many years.  He also enjoyed gardening and reading, but found the greatest joy with his wife, children, and especially his grandchildren.

​A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Friday, August 21,2020 at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church, Garnerville, NY.  Visitation will be held at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church between the hours of 5:00pm and 8:00pm on Thursday, August 20, 2020.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Gregory Barbarigo Church, 21 Cinder Road, Garnerville, NY  10923 in memory of Deacon Ron.
