Obituary of Mary E. Tantillo

Mary Tantillo, 92, of Tappan Zee Manor Nyack formerly of Garnerville NY passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2020 after a courageous battle with the COVID Virus. Mary was born on August 2nd, 1927 in New York City to Sabina and Michael Carroll. Her childhood was shared with time in both the Bronx and Ireland. She joins her beloved husband John Tantillo of more than 40 years who predeceased her in 1997. Mary worked for Letchworth Village until her retirement in 1995. Mary was a devout Catholic and a founding member of St. Gregory Barbarigo and volunteered in many capacities. She was very proud of her Irish heritage. She enjoyed reading, a good cup of coffee, dancing, and learning. Mary and her daughter Susan graduated together in 1975 from Rockland Community College. She also loved traveling around the country with her husband and to Europe. Even in her later years, she was always willing to travel anywhere with her family. Mary is survived by her younger brother Jack Carroll and her children, Susan Fella, her husband John, Denis, his wife Andrea, Charles, his wife Kathryn and Nancy Carver and her husband Alan. She is also survived by her grandchildren Thomas, Elizabeth Andrew (Crystal), Brian (Meg), Christopher, Claire, and Amanda who brightened her life as she did theirs, as well as cousins and many nieces and nephews. Spending time with her family was her greatest joy. The family wishes to express their appreciation to her caregivers who over the past several years enabled her to enjoy life.  Mary was very kind to all she met. She often said “charity begins at home”. The family is requesting, if you wish to make donations on her behalf, please do so to Catholic Charities or People to People. Due to the pandemic, there will be a private burial at this time and a memorial celebration to be held at a later date.
