Obituary of Sylvio Sergio Mastroianni
Sylvio Sergio Mastroianni, 89, died Friday, January 24th, 2020 with his family by his side in Stony Point, N.Y.
He leaves behind the “love of his life” and wife of 63 years, Eleanor; his eldest son Paul and his wife Bonnie; his youngest son Craig and his partner Christine; his 4 grandchildren Mark, Erica, Darin and Kyle; his 5 great grandchildren and many very close friends and family.
Born and raised in the Bronx, N.Y., Sylvio was one of eleven children. He played professional baseball in the Detroit Tigers organization and also served in the US Army during the Korean War.
Sylvio’s passions were his family, his friends and his love of baseball, particularly his love of coaching young aspiring baseball players. Active as a coach, mentor and role model he spent over 40 years deeply involved in youth baseball and left a lasting impression on a countless number of young athletes.
Sylvio will always be remembered for his devotion to his family and friends, his perpetual good nature, his kindness, his sense of humor, his optimistic outlook on life and his genuine interest in helping young athletes get the most out of their abilities. Always encouraging and supportive, he was genuinely loved by all who came in contact with him.
Prayer services will be held at T.J. McGowan Sons in Garnerville, N.Y. on Monday, January 27th from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mass and funeral services will be held at St. Gregory Barbarigo parish in Garnerville, N.Y. on Tuesday, January 28th at 10:30
