Obituary of Margaret M. Zippilli

Margaret M. Zippilli, of West Haverstraw, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2019. She was 88.

Margaret was born on January 16, 1931 in Haverstraw to William and Ida (Manglass) Scunda. She married her beloved husband Samuel J. Zippilli on May 4, 1952. They were married for 55 happy years before he passed away in 2007. They enjoyed their time in Boynton Beach, FL as “snowbirds” in their later years. Margaret was a medical transcriptionist, and worked for Robert L. Yeager Health Center for many years. She will be remembered for her passion for sports- especially Duke basketball, watching tennis at the U.S. Open, Haverstraw Little League, as well as the Mets and the Giants. She was active in the West Haverstraw Seniors Group, and the St. Peter’s CYO, as well as the Catholic Daughters of America.

Margaret is survived by her beloved daughters: Mary Beth Bifulco and Susan O’Brien; her grandchildren: Michael, Maggie and Frankie Bifulco, her cousin and lifelong friend George Wargo, Sr., sisters-in-law Rita Yonskie and Patricia Zippilli, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Margaret’s family will receive friends and relatives at T.J. MCGOWAN SONS FUNERAL HOME, 133 Broadway, Haverstraw, on Friday, March 1, 2019 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Margaret on Saturday, March 2 at 10 AM at St. Peter’s Church in Haverstraw, with interment to follow in Haverstraw. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may donate in Margaret’s memory to St. Peter’s Church in Haverstraw, or to    Joe Raso Hospice House in New City, NY.
