Obituary of Moira Kanarian

Moira Elizabeth Kanarian, 58, of Stony Point, New York, passed away on December 27, 2017, in the presence of her loving family. She was born on April 21, 1959 in the Bronx, New York to the late James and Elizabeth Drummond. Moira had a passion for animals and was avid lover of history and was an interpreter at the Stony Point Battlefield. She served as a New York City Police Officer in the Bronx for 20 years, and was a member of the Rockland County Shields. She was active in scouting and was an avid hiker and reader. She developed a love for snow leopards while on duty at the Bronx Zoo. Moira always loved the beach, traveling and especially Disney World. Moira is survived by her husband of 26 years, Steven Kanarian; her children: Alexander, Theresa and Michael; her brothers: Donald and Douglas; her sister Valerie; mother-in-law Mary Zahm, and father-in-law Peter Kanarian. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Drummond. Moira's family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, December 29 from 4-8 PM at the TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 30 at 10AM St. Gregory Barbarigo Church, 23 Cinder Street, Garnerville. Following Mass, Moira will be laid to rest privately. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made in Moira's Memory to the Bronx Zoo, 2300 Southern Blvd, Bronx, NY 10460.
