Obituary of Warren A. Scherer

Warren A. Scherer, 88, went home to the Lord from the comfort of his own bed. Warren was humble, helpful, patient, honest, and a good listener. He had a great sense of humor and a welcoming smile. He lived out his faith in Jesus Christ as a servant to others. He was capable, turning his hand to tasks that needed done. He never met a stranger. Warren was born in Jersey City, NJ, just before the stock market crash of 1929. He entered the Army and served his country in Europe after World War II. Warren attended Central College, Columbia University and Ozark Bible College, and was a lifelong learner. He loved to travel and camp. In 1962, Warren married Bette. Their marriage lasted 55 years, during which they raised seven children. He passed on his love of games, mind teasers, and puzzles to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Warren retired from Prentice Hall in West Nyack but continued to be active throughout his retirement. He cared for Bette through her final days. He is survived by their children: Beth, David, Mark, Robin (Rob), Janet (Michael), John (Jamie), and Craig (Amanda), eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Bette; brother, Ken; and parents, Paul and Minnie. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 3 at 11 a.m., at Church of Christ, 169 US-9W Haverstraw, NY 10927.
